About Radian

Radian is a small, family-run business based in Wiltshire. I started it after years working as a cabinet maker and product designer, building guitars myself as a hobby in whatever time I could find outside the day job. That combination is really where the company came from — I wanted router bits that behaved the way a cabinet maker or luthier actually needs them to, not whatever happened to be sitting in a catalogue.

The Radian Approach

Most of what we build starts from the same problem: you've already made a considerable investment in time and money getting good timber onto your bench, and a bad cut can undo all of it in one pass. Breakout on a guitar body, scorching on a bevel or roundover, a finish that needs sanding back — that's not just a ruined cut, it's the hours you put into the piece before the router ever touched it.

So we build differently. The majority of our router bits run 3 or 4 flutes, where 2 is still the industry standard — more cutting edges means cleaner cuts, less heat, less tearout. It costs more to make. We design and specify every detail ourselves, from our workshop in Wiltshire, rather than sourcing from someone else's catalogue, and we sell direct rather than through retailers, so there's no distributor markup stacked on top. That's how four-flute cutters end up priced like two-flute ones.

You can see the difference in the cut itself. Take it slow and a Radian bit leaves a shaving, not dust — a small thing, but a reliable sign the geometry is doing its job. It's also what our customers tell us matters most: "beautiful clean rebates, end grain a lot cleaner, little or no burn," even on hardwoods with a Janka rating over 10,000N.
